Overview

Advanced Small Office Unit: Combines a Telephone Distribution Module, two (2) Category 5 Voice & Data Modules and 6-way Video Splitter in a dedicated bracket for multi-line systems and full home networking with video distribution. Handles up to four (4) phone lines through to 12 telephone locations, and/or 12 data locations, and 6 video locations. Available as a stand-alone unit, or as part of a kit with SMC-100 or SMC-140. SMC-100 Construction Ring Features:

Sturdy galvanized steel construction-ring and snap-in steel inserts are ideal for two-phase installations.
Purchased in kits with Pre-Configured Structured Cabling Panels for one-step home technology solutions.
Cover features a 3/4" overlap to hide irregular drywall cuts.
Insert unit features wide open top and bottom for unencumbered cable entry and routing.
Holds a variety of distribution modules, allows up to two Pre-Configured Structured Cabling Panels, delivering audio, video, voice and data to any room of the home or office.
Mounting guides on the cover align screw-holes and reduce the chances of dropping during attachment.

Leviton's economical, construction-ring-style media convergence point with two-stage installation. The Series 100 SMC is ideal for simpler configurations with a longer period of time between rough-in and trim out, such as apartments, condominiums or housing developments. The construction ring (not shown) is mounted on wall studs prior to drywall, and its powder-coated white cover can be added anytime after the construction phase is complete. This avoids the problems normally associated with the messy rough-in stage of building. The unit accommodates a selection of full-width modules, which provide a full range of voice, data, audio and video. Construction Rings are packaged 5 to a box. Inserts and covers are sold as part of a kit that includes your choice of one of four Pre-Configured Structured Cabling Panels. UL Listed. CSA Pending.

An innovative series of modules and media centersyset up as either pre-configured essential platforms or more customized enhanced platformsymanage and distribute voice, data, audio and video in flexible configurations that best suit each homeowner's individual requirements. These requirements can range from something as simple as cable TV and telephone in several rooms, to a large area network or LAN for a small office or home-based business.

Three component groups comprise the Structured Media systems: modules, media centers and Quick-Port wallplates. These groups, along with Leviton's innovative "open architecture," allow the Structured Media system to grow and expand to keep up with the user's changing needs. Each component group has a specific purpose within the systems.

Modules range from video distribution that can support both digital TV services and digital satellite systems (DSS), whole house audio, security video monitoring solutions, Ethernet Hubs for high-speed networking security and internet sharing, and much more. Modules are securely housed in a Structured Media Center or SMC, a professional-grade in-wall panel where all central cabling and the distribution modules come together. Leviton's Essential Structured Media Platform has everything needed to build a system today with the baseline performance to support tomorrow's home-based multimedia technologies, including high speed Internet service such as DSL, cable modem and ISDN. Leviton's Essential Structured Media Platforms are ideal for single or multi-family residences and for the homeowner who wants to make sure their home is truly ready for the futureyin both technology and marketability.

The Basic Home Networking panel manages all incoming information and entertainment services such as telephone and cable TV. It can distribute up to four incoming phone lines to a total of nine phone jacks throughout the home. In addition, the Basic Home Networking panel has a Category 5 rated module that can, when used with an optional Ethernet hub or other networking device, network high-speed data to up to six separate data jacks, an important feature for a home office and multiple PC's. On the entertainment side, the panel's six-way precision video splitter is impedance-matched for high-quality coaxial signal distribution.

The panel, housed in either a Leviton 140 or 280 Structured Media center, interfaces through Leviton's acclaimed QuickPort ™ snap-in wallplate design, which lets the user expand their telephone and video wallplates to accommodate existing and future needs. With the Essential Structured Media system, the home can have up to six video jacks, nine telephone jacks and six data jacks (for home office and PC networking with an optional Ethernet hub); extra video and telephone connections may be added by expanding the panel. With the flexible QuickPort wallplate system, there is almost no limit to the combinations of jacksyphone, video and data, all mounted in one wallplate or separately, or any combination of jacksyso that all connectivity can match each room's layout with the right jack always on the right wall.

Leviton's "infrastructure solution for the convergence revolution" enables the next level of home technology performance with its dual coaxial cable and Category-5 data communications access. It has the increased capacity needed for running a complete home office and high speed Internet (including DSL, cable modem, ISDN), an in-home network, or even a whole-house entertainment system. Leviton's Enhanced Structured Media Platform features an Advanced Small Office panel, that can handle four incoming telephone lines and distribute them to up to twelve telephone jacks throughout the home. In addition, the Advanced Small Office panel can, when used with an optional Ethernet hub or other networking device, support up to twelve networked data jacks (cascading of multiple hubs may be necessary)yenough to support a home business or expanded home office. Note: The Advanced Small Office panel handles a mix of telephone and data connections up to a total of twelve jacks. Additional modules will serve more jacks. The panel even has an interface for connecting phone lines to a security system to help thoroughly protect the home investment.

When configured with Leviton's SMC 280 or 420 enclosure, the Enhanced Structured Media Platform has enough capacity for a wide range of multimedia and networking applications. The Networked Home Package combines all the elements you need for a modern home wiring system in your residence. The package combines multi-line phone/fax/internet (It can handle standard and high-speed internet access such as DSL, cable modem and ISDN.) and data networking with distribution of a variety of video signals throughout the home, including cable and satellite TV, digital cable, antenna, VCR, DVD, security camera/CCTV and more.

Audio/video and CAT 5 voice/data jacks are located in the room's wallplate to provide access to incoming utility services. The Certification Seminar is a full day workshop. The course covers all aspects of planning, installing and testing a category compliant system. It also covers industry standards and provides suggestions on marketing your business to audiences such as builders and home owners.

Use punchdown tool to terminate twisted pair cable at the wall jack and cross connect block.
Use EZ-RJ45™ Crimp Tool to terminate connectors to Category 5 twisted pair cable.
Screwdriver with reversible bit (slotted and Philips).
Use cable cutter for trimming coaxial cable and twisted pair cable. Curved blades will not deform cable conductors.
Use Cat 5 cable jacket stripper to remove cable jacket without nicking center conductors.
Use coax stripping tool to prepare coaxial cable (RG 59 and RG 6) for connector termination.
