Q: Can you really lock and unlock the door remotely?
A: Yes, for the Schlage LiNK lever door lock (handle), you can remotely lock or unlock the door by clicking on the activate button next to your lock on the web interface or cell phone interface. For the deadbolt product, however, you can remotely activate lock which makes it possible for the door to be unlocked by someone. Since door frames aren’t always aligned and a deadbolt can require more leverage to engage or disengage, the deadbolt requires manual operation.

Q: Do I need to use the keypad or is there a manual override?
A: Yes, there is a manual override. Just like any other lock, this one comes with mechanical keys that can be used anytime – regardless of whether or not there is an internet connection, the power is on, or the battery has failed. The mechanical keys will always work.

Q: How long is the battery life? How will I know when to replace it?
A: Since the lock is designed to use very little battery power to operate, the batteries included should last approximately 3 years. There is a battery life indicator both on the lock itself, as well on the web interface.

Q: How many codes can you have? How many exist?
A: Currently, you can have up to 19 unique four-digit codes active at the same time. Since each code is four digits, and there are 10 numbers on the keypad, there are around 10,000 different code combinations possible.

Q: What is the range of the RF signal on the lock? Does my computer router need to be close to my door?
A: Signal range is approximately 60-100 feet. And, each additional Z-Wave control module you have in your home actually strengthens the signal between your door lock and the Bridge device. If your Bridge is a long distance away, just plug in the light module (included) to an outlet about half-way between the lock and the bridge and it will work fine.

Q: How is this product installed?
A: The door lock installs in the same user-friendly manner as standard Schlage door locks. The Bridge and communication modules have also been designed to ensure a simple, user-friendly installation.

Q: If the internet is down, can I still get into my house?
A: YES. The keypad operates on battery power, so it still works when there is no internet connection. You can also always use the included key. The only thing you cannot do, if there is no internet connection, is access the online user interface and remotely monitor the system.

Q: If I want to terminate my monthly contract and stop paying the monthly fee, will my locks still work? Can I still control them from the web interface? Do the wireless functions of the lock cease if I stop paying the monthly fee?
A: The mechanical and electronic features of the lock will function even if you want to cancel your monthly payment plan. The user codes are stored in the lock(s) and will not be deleted unless you delete them yourself. You can even reprogram the codes manually if you do not want to use the online interface. However, the ability to control your devices via web site and cell phone will be terminated if you terminate your monthly payment account.

Q: Can I control the system from any location?
A: Since the system utilizes both the internet and all cellular networks, you can use this solution anywhere you have access to the internet or anywhere your cell phone can send and receive a signal.

Q: What if I move? Can I take my system with me?
A: YES. As long as your new home has high-speed internet access, you can use the system. The system does not store any physical location information. The locks can be easily removed and reinstalled at your new home.

Q: I just moved to a new home that has Schlage LiNK locks already installed. Can I use them? Can the previous owner control the locks?
A: If the previous owner left both the locks and the Bridge, you can reset the entire system and register a new account. If the previous owner did not leave the Bridge, you can contact Customer Service for information on how to obtain a new Bridge that will work with any Schlage LiNK locks, or purchase Vera, which will also work with the Schalge LiNK system. The previous owner cannot remotely control the locks with the old Bridge since the Bridge must be in range of the locks in order to control them.

Security

Q: Is this product any more/less secure than a regular deadbolt?
Q: Are codes more secure than keys?
Q: Can someone guess my code?
Q: Can't someone see which buttons have been pushed repeatedly after they show wear from use?
Q: Can someone hack into the system and open my door?
Q: What if my home network itself is not secure? What is my security risk if I access the online user portal over an unsecured connection?

Q: Is this product any more/less secure than a regular deadbolt?
A: The wireless-enabled deadbolt is just as secure as a regular deadbolt. The only difference is you have more control over who can lock/unlock the deadbolt. When someone uses the lock, the system can notify you of the time and the user code that was used.

Q: Are codes more secure than keys?
A: Since you can create, activate and deactivate individual codes, you have control over who can access your home - and deactivating a code is much easier than getting a key back or rekeying.

Q: Can someone guess my code?
A: Built-in security measures make it very difficult to guess someone's code. Once an incorrect code has been entered four times in a row, the lock disables the keypad for 30 seconds. In the interim, an alert is automatically sent to you via text and/or email notifying you someone was trying to access your home. All of these measures make it very difficult for someone to stand at your door long enough to try and guess your code - remember, there are also 10,000 possible code configurations to chose from.

Q: Can't someone see which buttons have been pushed repeatedly after they show wear from use?
A: NO. Schlage locks are specifically built and quality of key pad is designed to prevent this.

Q: Can someone hack into the system and open my door?
A: The entire solution is completely encrypted. Via the web, the solution incorporates SSL (Secure Socket Layer) protection. This is the same encryption used by the banking industry for financial transactions. In the home, the solution is also fully encrypted to the lock.

Q: What if my home network itself is not secure? What is my security risk if I access the online user portal over an unsecured connection?
A: All communications associated with Schlage LiNK are encrypted using industry standard products. However, it is the responsibility of the consumer to exercise discretion and observe all safety measures that they deem necessary to prevent unauthorized access, misuse of passwords, or misuse of other information on their computers, network, or other equipment used by the consumer.
